The objective of the project was to create a book cover, inside spreads as well as an Ipad application discussing the life and artworks of the artist Delphine Diallo.
Delphine Diallo is a French-Senegalese visual artist and photographer based in New York. Known for her distinctive portraits, she explores themes of identity and empowerment. Diallo's work challenges conventional beauty norms and has been exhibited internationally. She, still today, employs a mix of photography and mixed media, pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling.
In the process of creating the book ensemble, I really wanted to keep the emphasis on Diallo’s work. Keeping a minimalist tone to the inside of the book was then essential for me. The book features delicate details to contrast with the artist’s powerful and striking work. For the cover, the best solution was to let the work speak for itself. The picture is from Diallo’s “Highness” collection. The project is a vision of a new era which gives birth to an evolved future where the audience experiences the gift that is woman. The serif typeface “Meno Banner”, used on the book spine and chapter introduction pages, provides a delicate yet striking impact on the viewer. The spreads feature simple image captions and body text displayed in a two-column grid. For the Ipad application, focusing on fluid movements and having ambient music was the best solution for the overall user experience.
